Sarah Provoncha Burda

Finding balance between darkness and light, what is masked and revealed has become a recurring theme in my charcoal and mixed media pieces. Movement and transition continue to play in the imagery I am drawn to. The drive home, a conversation I had today, the natural world and our relationship to it -- glimpses of maps, dreams and photographs all play a part.
Recent work refers to the internal time-travel we engage in from time-to-time, the contrast of light and dark in our mind's eye, the ability to pass through doors, gates and over thresholds - both physically and metaphorically as we navigate our ever-changing world.

After many years working as a bookbinder and high school ceramics/sculpture teacher, I am currently establishing a permanent studio in Stafford Springs, CT.
